Stick Insects

We are learning about Stick Insects. 

We used bullet points and key words to help us take notes for our writing.

Curtis + Sefa - " When Stick insects are in danger they fall on the ground and play dead" 

Hayley- "They can lay 1, 500 eggs" 

Malia- "They can blend into trees, this is called camouflage" 

Aaliyah- "They like to eat leaves" 

Fonterra Milk Folding

We have learnt how to properly fold our milk cartoons. Folding our milk cartoons like this means that they are able to be recycled more efficiently. 

The milk cartoons are sent to Thailand to be recycled into roof tiles and books for school children!

Little Gardens

For our Environmental Art Room 9 is planting  a vegetable and herb garden in colourful tyres . Yesterday we all got to put together a new world little garden. Miss Spies gave us each an extra one  to take home and make with our whanau. We are learning about the life cycle of a plant and will be watching them sprout and grow in the next few days and weeks. The Impossible Bridge

Today we read "The Impossible Bridge". It was about a class of children who tried to make a bridge from one table to another table. This inspired us to give it a go. We started by talking about what an engineer is- We learnt that engineers design materials, structures and systems. So we thought we could be engineers for the day and design and build a bridge (structure). We got into small groups and used sticks, wool, straws, sellotape  and cardboard.  Mr Williams came in and judged our bridges, the criteria was how strong, stable and safe our bridges were. The winners scored a whooping 30/30 and had amyleigh, Wali, Runnna-mya, Mereka, Allena, and Wiremu in the group!

The Impossible Bridge

EarthQuakes

I saw a big giant tower fall.
I saw an extreme tree fall down, it crumbled everywhere.
I heard a rumbling noise coming my way, it was scary.
I heard someone scream for help.
I felt scared like a scardy cat
I wondered if I would survive.
When I was in an earthquake, I was screaming.

The experiment

First we got into groups and we put the egg in the cup and we put vinegar on the egg and we put it on the table for 24hrs. The next day the egg almost cracks so

We put some more vinegar into the cup and we took the egg out. Then we scraped the skin off the egg and we bounced it on the table. We bounced it higher and higher and higher and our egg cracked and we put our hand in the egg and It was it felt slimy. We went to the another groups and their egg was red in the cup and they bounced their egg and Charlie Rose cracked the red egg. They were angry I thought it was fun.

Room 9's Eggsperiment !!!

This week Room 9 are putting on their scientist coats and we are conducting an experiment!

Miss Spies brought in eggs, white vinegar and cups.... We have placed the egg in the white vinegar and left it overnight. 

Yesterday we all came up with a hypothesis of what we think might happen to the egg. 

Sefa said " I think the egg will become solid". 

Ruanna-Mya predicted it would change colour and Maile thought it would hatch into a bird.

Check in this afternoon to find out what happened. 

Monday Mornings...

I woke up on a cold winter morning I slowly walked to the window and the grass was freezing. In the morning my mum told me to wake up and I said “okay” but that’s a lie. I can smell hot coco in the freezing cold winter. There are a lot of cars speeding fast. I feel really tried. Once she goes out I grab my blanket and my pillow and I quickly find a spot. I slowly 

move then I hear my mum and I say” I’m almost ready” I lie again.

Birds are chirping lightly. I am relaxed in my bed. My mum is yelling at me because she wants me to get out of bed. I am happy because it is a school day.
